Child Abduction and Wrongful Retention: Navigating Hague and Non-Hague Cases
6th May, 2 pm UK BST
Please join Chair Alison Green (Consultant, MI Member firm Mackrell LLP, London), and Adeeba Naseem (Partner and Head of the Family and Relationship Team, Mackrell LLP, London) for a Family Law Practice Group Call on Wednesday May 6th at 2pm BST (UK).
In what promises to be a call of interest to members worldwide, Adeeba will be leading the discussion following a presentation on the complex international topic of Child Abduction, Wrongful Retention and Navigating cases in Hague Convention and Non-Hague countries.
Adeeba will explore the legal framework and practical steps involved in cases of international child abduction and wrongful retention covering: the differences between Hague Convention and non-Hague Convention jurisdictions; the legal requirements for bringing a case; and the process a left-behind parent should follow. Adeeba will also look at available defences to an abducting parent, protective measures and undertakings to a left-behind parent, as well as the process parents would follow when a child is removed from England to a Hague/non-Hague country, as well as funding considerations in these complex cross-border disputes.
As usual, at the end, we would also like to have a short open forum at the end for anyone to bring up topics, make new introductions, or mention issues they would like to discuss, and to suggest topics for future meetings.
Finally, even if you can’t attend the call, but would like to be added to the contact list to receive relevant updates etc, notifications of calls, past videos of calls etc, please email Meryl (mackrell.hq@mackrell.net) to be added.
