Words of advice from Partner Lee Soo Chye from our Singapore member, Wee Swee Teow as our MI Mentor Series continues…
From modest beginnings and an aversion to blood (which stopped him from becoming a surgeon!), Soo Chye has built his legal and business career on being the “Consiglieri”, the ‘go-to guy’ for his clients.
He stresses that lawyers need to be more than purveyors of legal knowledge - they need to offer solutions and contribute to society. He counsels younger lawyers to, “seek to learn – don’t wait for people to teach you,” and in that restless curiosity, make sure to ask questions. If you ask a question, you might be ‘stupid’ the one time; but if you don’t ask, you could end up being stupid forever.
With advice about prioritising, collaborating, developing an international perspective and what work-life balance really means, you can watch this and another insightful ‘Mentor’ session from one of our experienced, international lawyers here: https://youtu.be/YTsIoSF531o
