Hungary Provides the Opportunity to Apply for the Investor Visa (also known as Golden Visa) Under the Following Conditions

An investor visa may be granted to a third-country national who:

  • Demonstrates that their entry and stay in Hungary serve a national economic interest due to their investments in Hungary.

  • Meets the conditions set forth in Section 17(1)(a), (c), (d), and (f)–(i) of Act XC of 2023 on the General Rules for the Entry and Stay of Third-Country Nationals (e.g., possesses a valid travel document, holds a permit required for return or onward travel, provides proof of the purpose of their entry and stay, etc.).

  • Declares that they currently hold or intend to hold at least one Golden Visa-qualifying investment. In the case of a planned investment:

    • Provides evidence that the funds intended for the investment are of lawful origin and are available or transferable within Hungary.

    • Submits a written commitment to undertake the Golden Visa-qualifying investments during the validity period of the investor visa.

The following investments are deemed to serve a national economic interest (Golden Visa Investments):

  • a) The acquisition of investment units issued by a real estate fund registered by the Hungarian National Bank, with a minimum value of EUR 250,000.

    • Currently, only one fund manager offers such an investment opportunity.

  • b) A monetary donation of at least EUR 1,000,000 for the purpose of supporting education, scientific research, or artistic activities, provided to a higher education institution maintained by a public-interest asset management foundation performing public duties.

The validity of the investor residence permit may not exceed 10 years.

 

Other investment opportunities

Guest Self-Employment Permit

  • Residence Permit for One Year

  • A residence permit for the purpose of guest self-employment can be granted to a third-country national whose purpose of stay is to:

    • Engage in activities that can be carried out independently and for remuneration under the law, or

    • Perform activities as a senior executive of a business entity, cooperative, or other legal entity established for profit.

Hungarian Card

  • The Hungarian Card is a residence permit that allows its holder, who possesses a higher professional qualification, to stay in Hungary and also to engage in employment requiring such qualifications.

The Hungarian Card can be granted to a third-country national:

  • Whose purpose of stay is to perform actual work for remuneration for another person or under the direction of another person based on an employment relationship, or

  • Who, as the owner or senior executive of a business entity, cooperative, or other legal entity established for profit, performs actual work beyond the activities falling within this scope, or

  • Who holds a professional qualification defined in the announcement issued by the minister responsible for higher education in agreement with the minister responsible for vocational training, the minister responsible for adult education, the minister responsible for employment policy, and the minister responsible for the employment of third-country nationals in Hungary,

  • Is a professional athlete or coach,

  • Is a performing artist, or

  • Is a third-country national who performs actual work for a film producer or film production company registered by the competent film authority under the law governing motion pictures.
