Maggie Baingana

Maggie is the Co-founder and Managing Partner for Shield Associates, a law firm that operates in Kigali-Rwanda. She has a broad and extensive practice in complex litigation matters, commercial and corporate transactions in addition to running the day-to-day operations of the firm. Significant areas of practice in which she has demonstrated expertise include negotiating and providing strategic advisory services to corporations and businesses on company, investment, labor and land laws as well as designing large-scale contracts and other legal instruments in energy, agriculture, education and finance. Ms. Baingana has 17 years of experience working for both Government and International Organizations in the Justice, Health and Higher Educations sectors. She spent over ten years managing US government multi-million-dollar grants for technical assistance to Rwanda's higher education. She continues to hold a Senior Advisory role for Tulane University Rwanda, where she advises on faculty development and e-learning for the University of Rwanda.

Prior to that, she spent several years at the National Public Prosecution Authority where she worked on the process and prosecution of Genocide cases and other war crimes committed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi people of Rwanda. She currently serves as the Executive Secretary for Rwanda Women Lawyers Association and is a member of the Rwanda Leader's Fellowship. She is passionate about mentoring young women professionals to maximize their potential and to live a balanced life while making tangible contributions to their communities. Ms. Baingana obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from Makerere University, Uganda; a post-graduate diploma in Legal Practice from the Uganda Law Development Center; a Master of laws degree (LLM) in Government Law and Public Policy from the University of the Pacific, California-USA; and holds several professional certificates.
