Lyssa Anderson

Lyssa focuses her practice defending police departments and municipal government in litigation, employer-side employment law, constitutional law, appellate law, and professional malpractice defense. As an experienced trial and appellate attorney, Lyssa has argued and won many cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Nevada Supreme Court.

In addition to her successful outcomes in officer involved shooting cases, condition of confinement cases, wrongful conviction cases, and excessive force cases, Lyssa also routinely represents municipal governments in proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Nevada Equal Rights Commission and the Government Employee Management Labor Relations Board. Lyssa has served as a negotiator for municipal governments on renewals of labor contracts and has successfully represented municipal governments and other private employers in labor arbitrations.

Lyssa routinely advises employers on their obligations under state and federal law. She provides annual sexual harassment and discrimination training for many local employers. Lyssa has been engaged by many common interest ownership communities, municipal governments, and large learning institutions to conduct independent investigations into allegations of harassment and discrimination.

Lyssa successfully defended a large public learning institution and its administrators in harassment and discrimination litigation. Lyssa successfully argued a wage and hour class action before the Nevada Supreme Court which prevented a large hotel casino (and others similarly situated) from possibly owing four years of overtime compensation. She successfully defended the constitutionality of Nevada’s Standing Commission on Election practices before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Nevada Supreme Court. Lyssa represented a waste management company in negotiations with local municipalities concerning the company’s exclusive franchise agreements for waste hauling and disposal. Lyssa undertook the defense of the company and the municipalities in a federal challenge to the constitutionality of the franchise. In addition, Lyssa litigated a legal malpractice action that was successfully defended through two appeals to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and a Writ of Certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court. Lyssa has also represented local interveners and a major political party in Bush/Kerry election litigation.
