Marianna Katrakazi

Marianna is a corporate lawyer specialized in IP law with an extensive experience in privacy and data protection law. She is Legal Counsel, Head of Legal Department at a multinational group of companies and Legal Advisor at Athena Research and Innovation Centre where she advises on IP, personal data law and other legal issues related to Open Science. She is also Member of the European Open Science Cloud(EOSC) Association Task Force charter Rules of Participation Compliance Monitoring.

She joined the firm in 2017 as Associate, where she was engaged inter alia in cases of corporate law, employment, data protection and IP law. In 2018, she achieved certification as Data Protection Officer Executive and under this capacity provided DPO services ranging from usual regulatory compliance (data mapping, data protection audits, staff training, drafting of privacy statements and transparency-related documents etc.) to further ad hoc consultation on data protection. Since 2021, as of Counsel lawyer, Marianna provides her expertise in various projects, advises multinational organisations on local law requirements under privacy, cybersecurity, data protection, telecommunications and IP legislation and covers a wide range of GDPR compliance services, such as handling data subject requests, data breaches, and advising clients in case of enforcement actions of the Hellenic DPA.

Marianna started her career at the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) where she handled domain name cases and gained an extensive experience in trademark, domain names and telecommunications law. Between 2014-2017, she worked as legal adviser for the Greek Industrial Property Organisation (OBI), where she advised in IP law (patents, industrial designs, utility models),contributed to the European Commission public consultation on Patents and Standards and the consultation process for the adoption of the Directive (ΕΕ) 2016/943 on trade secrets (2016), and assisted Law Drafting Committee in the adoption of law transposing Directive on trade secrets into national law.
