James Atton

Joint Managing Partner Head of Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group

James joined Mackrell. Solicitors London office in 2005 following a number of years spent at the Spanish international law firm Mullerat and at various large Australian law firms and the European Commission. He became a partner in 2011.

He is a commercial litigation specialist, acting for both claimants and defendants, with expertise covering contract disputes, injunctive relief, company/shareholder disputes, employment, insolvency, fraud, Financial Conduct Authority and other regulatory disputes, property disputes, IT disputes, intellectual property disputes, professional negligence, debt collection and personal injury.

Examples of his recent work includes civil fraud involving complex, international commercial litigation including money laundering cases, collective investment schemes, Ponzi and advance fee fraud schemes obtaining worldwide freezing injunctions and defending clients subject to restraint orders and civil recovery orders director/shareholders disputes, including breach of fiduciary duty, breach of trust (including tracing claims) insolvency litigation including directors’ duties and directors’ disqualification and large scale debt collection contractual disputes enforcement of UK judgments abroad and foreign judgments in the UK IT and intellectual property disputes acting in high value, catastrophic personal injury claims for injuries suffered abroad.

James is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only association whose members are selected on the basis of excellence and accomplishment in litigation.

James is fluent in Spanish.
