Shughart Thomson & Kilroy Taps Attorney Stephen Traverse to Expand
Regional and National Scope of the Firm’s Real Estate Practice
Phoenix, AZ – August 24, 2006: Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, P.C. is pleased to announce that Stephen E. Traverse has joined the Phoenix office as a Shareholder in the Real Estate Practice Group. With extensive real estate transactional, financial, and business litigation experience, Traverse has been slated to expand and grow the practice, both on a regional and national basis.
“With over twenty-five years of legal experience in the real estate arena, Steve is an extraordinary asset to the firm and the Phoenix business community. His extensive background in dealing with complex commercial real estate matters and business transactions will enable the firm to significantly strengthen and expand its legal capabilities in these areas, and provide Phoenix area businesses with a high-powered resource to utilize,” stated Marty Harper, Managing Partner of the Phoenix office.
Traverse will focus on providing comprehensive legal guidance to commercial real estate and other business clients, including negotiating and drafting purchase and sale agreements, leases, and real property secured loan documents. His client base includes major commercial buyers, sellers, developers and lenders locally and across the country. With a multi-faceted legal practice, Traverse also has handled significant business asset purchase and sale agreements, as well as legal matters relating to the formation of business entities, and to residential developments including condominiums and planned communities.
Among Traverse’s prominent real estate clients is a publicly traded owner and operator of automotive technical training schools with campuses throughout the country. For the past several years he has assisted that client expand its national presence through the acquisition and leasing of properties in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, as well as in its home state of Arizona.
In addition to his professional achievements, Traverse has been involved with numerous bar and civic organizations throughout his career. He has been a member of the Arizona State Bar’s Corporate, Banking and Business Law Section Subcommittee on Rendering Legal Opinions in Business Transactions. Further, he has published numerous articles relating to real estate in Arizona and California, and is the co-author of a standard book on real estate finance published by the California State Bar.
A graduate of U.C.L.A (B.A. in Classics, 1970), he received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1980. He also holds an M.A. (1971) from U.C.L.A., and a Ph.D. (1980) from the University of Toronto, Canada. Traverse is a member of both the Arizona and California State Bars and is also admitted to all of the federal district courts in those states. In prior years, while living in Glendale, California, he served as Judge pro-tempore for the Los Angeles Superior and Municipal Courts. Now a resident of Scottsdale, he and his family have lived in Arizona since 1999.
