Cairncross & Hempelmann Receives Community Service Award

22 October 2009

Cairncross & Hempelmann was named the winner of the 2009 Community Service Award for firms with fewer than 50 attorneys at the 2009 Puget Sound Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators Managing Partners Dinner. The award, originated in 1994, is given to firms within the Chapter's membership that have demonstrated exceptional service to the community. The purpose of the award is two-fold: (1) to provide recognition of the service efforts being made by members of our legal community in order to promote those firms that are contributing time and effort to improving our community; and (2) to enhance our sense of community responsibility, encouraging other firms to consider broader involvement in the community. Beginning in 2008 it was determined that two awards should be given - one to firms with 50+ attorneys and one to firms with fewer than 50 attorneys. Cairncross & Hempelmann also received the award in 2000.

“Last night was another wonderful night for Cairncross & Hempelmann and its heartfelt causes,” said attendee, John Hempelmann, Chairman of Cairncross & Hempelmann.

Cairncross & Hempelmann encourages and cultivates community service through its financial involvement in employee-chosen organizations, by coordinating group volunteer events, and by allowing employees flexibility in their schedules to accommodate individual volunteer activities. Recent activities have included: community cleanup events, the Cystic Fibrosis Stairclimb (annually since 2003), and annual charitable giving in addition to the many community organization board memberships.

WestSide Baby was the featured community service program highlighted at the event. Nancy Woodland (wife of Cairncross & Hempelmann attorney, Tim Woodland) is the Executive Director, and was tremendously appreciative of the honor, acknowledging that more than $20,000 was raised last night for WestSide Baby through direct donation and a silent auction preceding the event.
