Keller and Heckman LLP Hosts Washington, D.C. "Mini Mackrell Meeting"

29 December 2008

On December 4, 2008, Keller and Heckman LLP, the Washington, D.C. member of Mackrell International, hosted a cocktail reception for fellow Mackrell members with branch offices in the nation's Capital. Representatives from Shughart, Thompson & Kilroy, and Polsinelli, Shalton, Flanigan, Suelthaus PC (to become Polsinelli Shughart effective February 1, 2009), Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, and Akerman Senterfitt attended.

Marty Harper, a member of Shughart, Thompson’s Board of Directors and the Managing Partner for the Arizona Office, currently serves as the Chair of Mackrell International. Marty attended the Reception along with several of his soon-to-be new partners from the Polsinelli firm. According to Marty, “this was an excellent opportunity for some of us at Shughart to meet our new partners at Polsinelli and to introduce them to some of our fellow members of Mackrell International.”

Jack Richards, a partner at Keller and Heckman LLP and the Mackrell contact at the firm, was equally enthusiastic: “it was a wonderful chance to bring together attorneys from some key Mackrell member firms. All of us work in Washington, D.C., but none of us can do everything. What we learned is that there are plenty of opportunities for member firms to collaborate, deal with conflict issues, make referrals for specialized expertise, serve our clients and expand our practices…all under the Mackrell umbrella.”

Keller and Heckman LLP, founded in 1962, represents a wide spectrum of companies and trade associations servicing a range of industries, including food and food additives, plastics, pesticides, industrial and specialty chemicals, drugs and medical devices, transportation and telecommunications (www.khlaw.com) . The firm's practice covers the diverse regulatory areas that affect these industries, as well as business counseling and litigation issues.

The firm is a pioneer in the use of interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving. Since 1971, Keller and Heckman LLP has had the support of an in-house scientific staff that works closely with the firm's attorneys on matters of technical complexity. Many of the firm’s attorneys also have government experience and expertise in multiple areas of the law.

Keller and Heckman LLP operates branch offices in Brussels, San Francisco and Shanghai, where Mackrell International is represented by separate member firms. In each city, attorneys from Keller and Heckman LLP and the Mackrell member representatives have gotten together and discussed areas of mutual interest.
According to David Ettinger, another partner at Keller and Heckman LLP, “Mackrell is about serving our clients and growing our practices. As law firms grow, consolidate and expand their reach, we need to be sensitive to the opportunities presented through Mackrell.”
