The Family Law Practice Group had its first conference call on Monday 8th March 2010.

We discussed what the purpose of the Group is to be and came to the conclusion that whilst MI is very much a commercially based organisation, it would undoubtedly be useful to everyone if the profile of Family Law were raised within the Association as it then allows firms to this service to clients.

Marketing was also discussed with an emphasis on the cross-selling of services within firms and it was interesting that experiences across the world in this respect are very similar.

How to put our knowledge to the best use was another topic raised and in the past articles have been written in conjunction with Family Lawyers from other MI firms for the English legal press about the way in which certain aspects of Family Law operate in other jurisdictions and this has helped raise the profile of that firm in the English jurisdiction. Other ideas as to how our knowledge can be used could be something which is discussed on the next call.

It has been agreed that the calls will take place quarterly and that in the meantime, we will set up a sub group on the MI web site and also a group on www.linkedin.com.

The next call will be in June and once the details are agreed, people will be notified.
