Founded in 1987, MACKRELL INTERNATIONAL took its name from John Mackrell, a London lawyer who started a practice in Lincoln's Inn in 1845. He was renowned for his common sense commercial approach to legal matters and founded a scholarship for practical legal excellence. His philosophy is shared by all member firms of MACKRELL INTERNATIONAL as they adapt to changes in the world of commerce and finance.

This pragmatic attitude is shared by the firms which join MI inasmuch as they identify closely with the business communities to which they belong and where they invite respect from their peers.

Many prospective member firms seek out the specific qualities of the MI network and join it after initial investigation and due diligence. This process of enlargement is currently at work in the Middle East - Israel and Dubai are now on board - and is being pursued in other key areas of the world such as Africa and Central America.

Our member firms vary considerably in size yet all the 4000 lawyers who belong to the network find that MI is both an excellent vehicle for providing their clients with international access and also for receiving incoming business. Although each firm preserves its identity and independence, it is able to draw on the experience and knowhow of MI members around the world to provide information on business practice on all continents.

Relationships between our lawyers tend to be longstanding thanks to the frequent possibilities for personal contact given to the members in regional and international meetings, as well as in regular conference calls, participating in working parties or practice groups, or being involved in the governance of the organisation. MI is run by a seven person committee who monitor the actions of a Managing Director and a Secretariat. Strategy is proposed to the membership at large and spearheaded by the Committee.

Clients, too, tend to be longstanding and it is not unusual to find some cooperating with Mackrell members in half a dozen countries round the world.

This is the key to our success so far: longstanding interpersonal relations leading to lasting client satisfaction. As we integrate new firms, we ensure that their ethos and actions fit in with our working methods and high quality options.
